On retiring Simon Simpson commenced walking around the English coast and half of the Welsh coast, during which he decided to put brush to paper and started painting the seascapes in watercolour.
Upon being diagnosed with needing a triple bypass, Simon settled at Swanbridge Court. Two and a half years later, Simon has just held a successful private exhibition of 22 acrylic paintings. The four by three foot painting entitled Your Stars and You has been Simon’s most challenging painting to date, “Some of it required me to paint upside down and some whilst lying on floor. Never again, or I may have to call out the Air Ambulance, a charity we support, to help me back onto my feet!”

I have played bowls for over 25 years, but this year I am unable to bowl anymore or drive, but still like to go and support my club at West Byfleet, when they play at home.
During a break at a recent match, I was surprised to see some of my old team players appear and to my astonishment the President presented me with a framed local service award certificate in recognition of my many years of service to my club and bowls.
I was “bowled over”! Jean Wood

On reading the letter about Henry Tomlinson, I remembered that my husband was serving on HMS Jarvis that picked up survivors on the HMS Kelly.
I wonder if their paths every crossed

Dear Editor,
Residents Peter and Cynthia Lewis have celebrated their 65th wedding anniversary. The couple met when Peter was a Royal Marine posted to Teignmouth as a frogman during the war, where he fell in love with Cynthia. Peter was called away to take part in D-Day and proposed to Cynthia upon returning.
