Heroic Sue raises thousands for the Christie Hospital
Peverel Retirement Area Manager Sue Earnshaw has presented a cheque worth thousands of pounds to the Christie Hospital in Manchester.
Sue began raising money for the hospital in June 2011 after her husband sadly passed away from leukemia in 2010.
She smashed her original target of £5,000, raising £8,500 which will help the Christie Hospital fund its research into a cure for the disease. She presented the cheque to the hospital’s clinical director of haematology Dr Mike Dennis in the new purpose built adult leukemia unit.
As well as her fundraising, Stockport-based Sue manages 29 developments across Cheshire and Manchester for Peverel Retirement. She has just celebrated her 20th year with the company, but says she has no plans to retire.
She has involved her Peverel Retirement colleagues and residents in her fundraising activities. Residents at Peverel Retirement developments such as Oak Court, Wythington and Willow Court in Gatley have raised money by holding charity events including a pink afternoon tea, and raffles. Following Sue’s lead, the house manager Graeme Codling at Hillary Court, Fornby, completed a sponsored walk and raised £400.
Sue said, “Thank you to all those who have contributed by donating money or taking part in our events to help raise money for the Christie Hospital. The money will help fund much needed research into leukemia”.
Keith Edgar, Managing Director of Peverel Retirement, says: “In her day job, Sue is part of a team that manages independent living developments across the North West so the fact she has also found time to raise so much money for this good cause is incredible. It is also great to see how much support the residents and her colleagues have given throughout the past few months.”
