Retirement development celebrates tenth year with charity drive
A Birmingham retirement development is using its 10th anniversary celebrations to raise money for the Alzheimer’s Trust.
Peverel Retirement-managed Rivendell Court in Hall Green is holding a 10th birthday party on 5 July for its 64 residents, with all profits generated by the £5 entry fee going towards the Alzheimer’s Trust. The party is just one event in a month-long fundraising drive for the charity.
Resident Chris Fretwell said the Rivendell Court Residents’ Committee had designated July as a ‘charity month’, with bingo and quiz events, fish n’ chip suppers, ploughman lunches, raffles and cake sales all geared toward raising money for the Alzheimer’s Trust.
“As it’s Rivendell Court’s 10th anniversary, we decide our celebrations should be part of the fundraising drive,” explains Chris.
The development’s fundraising activities have raised nearly £7,000 since 2006, including nearly £1,450 for a young persons’ cancer unit and Macmillan nurses last year.
Peverel Retirement House Manger Robert Cartwright joined the development nine months ago and said he had been amazed at the Residents’ dedication to charitable causes.
“Rivendell Court is one of the largest retirement developments in Birmingham and its Residents must be some of the liveliest retirees in the city,” says Robert.
“It’s amazing how much they’ve raised for charity over the years.”
Peverel Retirement Managing Director Keith Edgar says: “Hats off to Rivendell Court Residents for putting on so many fundraising events. That they have raised so much for charity over the last five years is brilliant, and I hope they have similar success this year.”
